Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Survivor Support Group

The purpose of the Bosom Buddies Group is to support the Lincoln Hills Community by offering support, friendship, networking, information and other resources to individuals newly diagnosed, in treatment, and in post treatment for Breast Cancer.

All are welcome.

Our History

On a June day in 2002, Lincoln Hills Bosom Buddies founder Linda Williams received a call from her doctor at Kaiser. "The 2nd mammogram also looks suspicious, you need a biopsy." Linda hung up the phone and called Kathy Himelhoch, who had started our Support Team in Lincoln Hills. "Kathy, I don't know if I have it, but if I do, I want a breast cancer support group right here! I can get them going and dance away after it's all organized if I am OK." She called right back and we had a room for September and Linda had a new job. Publicity went out, and the first person to call was Mary Chandler, who said "I have some secretarial skills and can keep the roster, etc." What an understatement. Mary was a dream partner. We were off and running.

About eighteen women arrived at the first meeting in September, and our roster grew to over sixty. Wondrously, whenever someone was asked to take on a job, the answer was, "YES, I can do that." We have our own library, go to concerts, have pot lucks, bring in great speakers, and continue to care for and help each other and our newcomers.

We had wonderful programs that first year, the "no hair chair" was showered with love and support, we all did significant sharing and fellowship, and helped the newcomers as they arrived. Eventually we changed our name from "Support" to "Survivors" to focus on our collective wellness. We do not give out medical advice, but we do a lot of networking.
